The Algorithm

These tesselations are constructed following a basic algorithm; somebody asked me to describe it. In each image, the blue lines are newly-drawn and the black lines are from prior steps.

Then if you repeat this process with a bunch of adjacent polygons, you get a tesselation. By controlling the shapes of the base polygons and the colors, you can get an enormous amount of control over the look and feel of the final product.
